This area is pretty muddy! Wet weather can also cause some streams and rivers to become impassable. Spaces in the national trust car park at 10.15am very busy when I got back to my car at 2.40pm!! 2017 - A circular Peak District walk from Dovedale to Milldale returning over high ground to Lover's leap. Bit flooded due to heavy rain. Follow the path leading behind the toilets in Dovedale Car Park. However, once you've reached the village of Milldale, the return leg of the walk then heads off the main track into the majestic open access hills to the east of Dove Dale. Turn left and walk along the road for 100m. The path down to Dovedale Stepping Stones is a steady descent, and theres also a short steep section uphill towards the end of the walk. Looking back to Dove Holes from a bend in the river, We follow the path through Upper Taylor's Wood, Ilam Rock, where we'd emerged huffing and puffing on our recent Dovedale walk. Fees apply, and this car park does get very busy so try to get here early! On a beautiful summers day, these are really popular, hopping across the river. Take the one on the right that leads right up the hill to this gate (see photo below). Not my usual kind of walk, this is a very well maintained path between points . HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE: Without kids, this is a 2 hour walk, but with young kids it is closer to 3 hours (longer if its a sunny day and you want to picnic by the river and maybe have a paddle). The footpath then levels off as you approach the farm buildings. Enjoy the limestone features of Lover's Leap, the Tissington Spires, and Dove Holes.
